Wind turbines are all the rage in Europe, and huge farms have successfully powered part of California's huge load for decades.  On the small scale, however, it is important to understand the role that the wind can play, as it is intermittent and unpredictable.  We usually recommend wind in a supporting role: as a backup to PV and hydro generation. We recommend consulting with our engineers to make certain that you get the right advice before heading down the path of harnessing the wind.
