300VA toroidal transformer
This transformer is intended for customers wanting to make their own battery charger using 230 vac 50 Hz gen. sets. These gen. sets are mass produced and low cost. Without a large charger unit, they cannot be used to charge batteries easily without an expensive charger. You can make your own charger, and voltage regulation can be done by the system voltage regulator, so you do not need to worry about controlling the charge rate as this is done for you. These transformers are designed for 230vac input at either 12 or 24 vac output. We can also supply them for 50 volt output at 500 VA. Just hook up the primary to the 230vac 50 Hz and connect the secondary in either 12/24 or 50 vac onto the rectifier (100amp unit on this web site recommended) then you can connect the output to your battery bank and charge it. Put suitable sized fuses in the system and measure current flow. If current flow is not high enough then you can increase charge rate, by winding more turns on to the secondary wire of the toroidal transformer. This you do by lengthening the secondary wire with insulated wire of the same size and wrapping it around the toroid a few turns. Repeat the procedure until it charges at the correct rate. If it charges at too high a rate, then wrap the turns against the turns of the toroid to reduce the charge rate. You can install as many transformers as you like to get 300, 600, 900, 1200 Watts of charge, just make sure that your system regulator is big enough to handle it and that you do not charge wet cells greater than 10% of their capacity and gel cells greater than 5% of their capacity. Install fan cooling if transformers get above 50 degrees Celsius. The good news about chargers built in this manner is that they are very robust and low cost spiky generators that do not hold good voltage and frequency can be used to charge your batteries. You then use a pure sine wave inverter to run 230 vac loads in your house with clean power.
