3 phase transformer kits for Smart Drives
3 x 300VA toroidal transformers kit. This kit is intended mainly for DIY hydro applications of Smart Drives that have long cable runs normally in the range of 250 to 2000m. This kit is for high voltage application of Smart Drives. The three high voltage Smart Drive models are the 80S (now called the 80-14S1P) 60S (now called the 60-14S1P) and the 60Sdc (now called the 60dc-12S1P). These Smart Drive options can put out up to 1-volt per rpm so can be lethal, do not mess with this kit if you are not sufficiently skilled to work with voltages in the range 50-1000 vac and vdc. With this kit, you can take the high frequency 3-phase ac from the Smart Drive generator and by either star/delta pointing the transformer primary you can connect the output of the Smart Drive to the transformer. The secondary windings are twin tapped so they can be connected in series or parallel. You can also star/delta the generator primary and secondary of the transformer so you can get a variety of running voltages. We have found that you can run the transformer in the range 200-500 vac input and output to 24 or 48 vdc battery systems with an efficiency of about 85%. Kit is supplied with 1500-volt 30-amp rectifier or you can upgrade to a 100-amp rectifier. We would also recommend fan cooling of the transformers if the operation temperature exceeds 50 degree Celsius. Fan kits are available from EcoInnovation elsewhere on this web site. With full fan cooling of the 3 x 300VA transformer they can be used in applications up to 1200 Watts. Remember it is the battery voltage that determines the operational voltage on the transformers not in the input voltages. As a rule of thumb the dc output voltage when disconnected from the battery bank should be about twice the nominal battery voltage as a starting point.
