LG has recently launched a washing machine motor that is very similar to the F&P Smart Drive unit. The main difference is that it is fitted with a metal rotor and that the wire is the same as the 80 series Smart Drive. It is also likely that LG may use the thinner 60 series wire in due course and may switch to aluminium wire is some cases.

 This LG unit will work well on both wind and hydro turbines up to about 1.2 kW. The strong steel rotor will be well suited for wind blades to be directly mounted, this is not the case for the Smart Drive plastic rotor where a steel reinforcement pressing has to be used.

 We have tested this unit on our test rig and have test results and wiring diagrams available for sale.
