5 kW Variable AC/DC transformer
These units are available in several sizes, 1kVA, 5kVA, 10kVA and 15kVA. We convert the 5kW and 10kW units into chargers connected to our standard rectifier cabinet which in turn is connected to your MPPT solar regulator such as an MX60.
When connected to an MX60 and running at a nominal input voltage of 100vdc their continuous rating in kW is 1/3 of the kVA rating. So a 5kVA unit can charge batteries at up to 1.7kW, a 10kVA can charge batteries at up to 3.3 kW when connected to our rectifier pack and an MX60. This is a great and cost effective way to provide a high output regulated charge via your existing MX60 using a low cost generator set. Generator should be 2 x the kW rating of the maximum charge you want to deliver to ensure the gen-set is not overloaded and runs at above ½ maximum load.
This unit drops the voltage from your generator so that it can work with the input voltage range of your MX60, normally up to 140 vdc. This way you can use any cheap generator to charge 12/24/48 vdc battery at night from your MX60 when it is not being used for solar PV input.
The benefit of this type of charging cannot be over-stated. Normal inverter/chargers when connected to a gen-set connect the home directly to the generator set, this can cause issues with premature failure of household appliances that were never designed to run on low cost gen-sets with poor voltage and frequency regulation. Do not do it this way.
Not intended for grid use, can also be used directly for battery charging up to maximum amp rating for 24/48 vdc applications.
Good for 20 amps at 24/48 vdc direct, or 60 amps at 12/24vdc via MX60.
