The load stepper board has been developed for EcoInnovation by Smithies Technology (www.andrew.smithies@paradise.net.nz). This board is the heart of the Smart 500 and Smart 1000 wind turbines and we are currently developing a unit for the Chinese 300 Watt machine. It is supplied with 2 x 3 phase 30 amps rectifiers and a 1-phase 30-amp rectifier. We will in due course be offering a complete kit set that will allow people with access to Smart Drive, Whirlpool and LG motors to use this board to convert the low cost Chinese turbine into a top performing machine. EcoInnovation has tested nearly 30 development turbines and refinements in order to perfect this board so that maximum power can be delivered from a Chinese blade and Smart Drive combination under a variety of wind conditions.
This allows you to connect two Smart Drive generators (Smart 1000) or one wired in two-halves (Smart 500) to be connected together in series at low speed and parallel at high speed. This means that the turbine generator puts out a high voltage when the blades are spinning slowly allowing a very low cut in speed and dramatically improving the low speed performance of the wind turbine. When the rpm of the generator increases a frequency trigger changes the configuration from series to parallel resulting in an electrical gear change. This results in the turbine being able to charge at high power in stronger winds. The boards have been on test for over 12 months and have recently gone into production. As the Chinese 300 Watt machine has a generator that is wound in two-halves, it will be possible to increase the top end performance of these machines from 300 Watts to 600 watts. We intend to start testing this option soon using the Chinese generator. This product is offered as a spare part for Smart 500 and Smart 1000 machines at the moment. DIY?ers might also be interested as the frequency latch is user adjustable in a limited range.
